Putting the mission in motion
Sheaves for Christ (SFC) is off and running for another year, and this year the Illinois District of the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) hopes to raise $220,000 to help “Put the Mission in Motion,” which, not coincidentally, happens to be the theme of the 2009 promotional campaign.
Locally, UPCI ministers from west central Illinois met at Ponderosa in Jacksonville last Monday evening (February 16) for the annual Section Six Sheaves for Christ Kickoff Banquet. District Youth President Jason Cox and Youth Secretary Anthony Bailey gave a promotional presentation noting all of the things SFC supports – vehicles for foreign missionaries, money for Tupelo Children’s Mansion, support for district youth projects, and much, much more.
Pledge cards were distributed at the end of the evening, and Section Six churches committed to give over $7,000 for SFC. The most exciting part was that four pastors were not present to make a pledge, including the pastor of the church that gave the largest offering in 2008. If that congregation matches what they did last year and the other three pastors up the ante just a bit, Section Six could top the $10,000 mark. And that would be very exciting indeed.
