Calvary Tabernacle is moving to a new location

Sign We're Moving

Calvary Tabernacle is on the move.

Calvary Tabernacle, the church Tollie and I attend, is preparing to move to a new facility. This morning we held our final Sunday morning worship service in our old building at 16th and Locust in Quincy. This afternoon, we spent several hours moving the remaining odds and ends to our new facility at the corner of 12th and Hampshire.

On Thursday, we will hold our final Bible study at 16th and Locust. Our pastor already has said it will feature an abbreviated format, primarily because there’s almost nothing left in the building – no sound equipment, no musical instruments, no supplies – nothing. It will mark the end of 50 years of Calvary Tabernacle’s ministry at that corner.

Next Sunday, September 6, we will hold our first worship service in our new location. We plan to celebrate the occasion with three baptisms, so it should be a very special service indeed.

Suffice it to say we are very excited.

For those who don’t know, here’s a quick guide to our new facility. The building formerly housed a social service agency, Two Rivers Council. The building was too large for their operations, however, so they tried to sell the building. With an asking price that approached $2 million (I don’t recall the exact amount), it sat on the market for quite some time.

Our pastor, Randy Pate, believed the building would make an excellent church, but he knew Calvary Tabernacle couldn’t afford the asking price. However, after much prayer and a prophetic word, he approached the head of Two Rivers.

To make a long story short, three months later Calvary Tabernacle is moving into a facility more than twice the size of our old church, while our monthly building expenditures will remain practically unchanged.

Our new facility also is completely handicap accessible and located just two blocks from one of the most prominent corners in town. (Our old building was stuck in a residential area, away from heavy traffic.) Two Rivers will occupy the front and second floor offices, while Calvary Tabernacle will use the rest, including the large multi-purpose room we have transformed into a beautiful sanctuary.

See you next Sunday at 1125 Hampshire.

Hey, so who went down this time? I think the new facility is wonderful and the factthat it is cheaper than what the church was paying out for the old place, that just very well rocks!!!
I wanted to report that I have a friend. We have been under the supervision of our pastor, Pastor Celestine, and his name is Doug. He is a wonderful man, and he was baptised in Jesus’ Name this past Sunday. It feels as though my life is finally looking up a bit. Niiiice new place, and I look forward to being in service there at some point, probably the holidays. Take care!
