Thoughts on turning 32
Today I turned 32.
It was pretty much like every other day recently. I woke up early, spent some time in spiritual devotions, then laid down with my son for a few minutes before joining my friend Nick on a jog through south Quincy. After a quick shower, I sat down at my computer and worked eight hours.
Sounds kind of boring when you actually type it out…
It’s hard to believe I’m already two years into my fourth decade of life. It leaves me wondering where all the time went. Actually, I’ve been asking myself that for the past couple years, ever since I turned 30.
I’ve also found myself contemplating Country star Tim McGraw’s hit song, “My Next Thirty Years.” The song discusses a wide range of issues, including health and fitness. I am happy to report that I recently had a complete physical for the purposes of purchasing life insurance, and it turns out that I’m in great condition. In fact, I weighed myself this morning and discovered I’d even dropped a few pounds.
But my favorite verse of “My Next Thirty Years” is the last, which goes like this:
My next thirty years will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here, in my next thirty years
In my next thirty years
In the next 30 years, I plan to do just that – raise a family and hang out with the people I love. I also want to spend more time with God during the next 30 years. I want to spend a little more effort building His Kingdom, and a little less building mine.
I plan on making it the best 30 years of my life.
